My rescue kitten has eye gunk, raspy meow, and diarrhea. What's wrong?

Poor Boi! It sounds like he may have a few things going on, including a possible upper respiratory infection and possibly some internal parasites causing his diarrhea. Both of these are very common in cats adopted from shelter or rescue situations, and stress/change can certainly make it worse. If both eyes are affected to the point of swelling shut and he's very congested/feverish, it is best to seek veterinary care for a full exam and for any antibiotics as needed- plus you can bring in a sample of his stool to check for parasites and have those treated at the same time. Until you can get into the vet, using a warm wet washcloth to remove any discharge and debris from the nose and eyes and keeping him eating and drinking can help some.

Jack's eyes and stool most likely are not related although can be. He may have an upper respiratory infection, conjunctivitis (inflammation in the conjunctiva of the eyes which may be infection vs allergic), Jack can have a corneal ulcer (less likely if it is both eyes that are affected) or even allergies (which are less likely due to age). With all of his symptoms, including a runny nose and sneezing it seems more like an upper respiratory infection. It is a good sign that he is still full of energy. With his stool, it can be stress or intestinal parasites. It can also be that he got into something he wasn't supposed to or even a virus. When you go to the veterinarian I would recommend bringing a stool sample so the veterinarian can make sure there are no intestinal parasites. They may dispense eye medication and medication to help with the diarrhea. Depending on the cause they find it just may be antibiotics for the diarrhea or it may be a dewormer. This could be due to a viral or bacterial infection. I would suggest having Carl examined by a veterinarian sooner rather than later so that the infection does not become more severe. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Diarrhea could be due to something like parasites for instance which is treated with medications or it may be transient. Squinting typically means the eye is painful as does the lethargy. From your pictures, the underside of the eyelid appears swollen and his third eyelid is elevated. He could have an eye infection. It can happen alone or be part of an upper respiratory tract infection. He may start with other symptoms such as sneezing and a decreased appetite. Another possibility is a corneal ulcer or scratch across the surface of the eye. This is very painful. The doctor will examine him and may recommend a test to look for an ulcer. He may be constipated and straining to defecate. He could also have intestinal parasites causing him to strain. If the condition is allowed to progress, he develop a prolapsed rectum. This becomes more serious. If his meow has changed, that could be a symptom of an upper respiratory infection. His veterinarian will be able to address both issues. I hope this information helps!

Sneezing can be a sign of an upper respiratory tract infection. You will need to estimate his genital region after he eats to help him urinate and defecate. A mother cat would do this after nursing.
