My new kitten is sneezing, mouth breathing, and has eye gunk. Vet now?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 months and 10 days old | 3 lbs

I adopted a 3 month old kitten from the humane society on Sunday and ever since we brought him home he is excessively sneezing and sometimes it looks like he starts breathing with his mouth open. He does have a little eye gunk but I'm not sure if it is related. Carl is still actively running around, eating and drinking water. I take him to the vet in two weeks, should I take him in sooner?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. The symptoms you are describing could indicate that Carl has an upper respiratory tract infection. This could be due to a viral or bacterial infection. I would suggest having Carl examined by a veterinarian sooner rather than later so that the infection does not become more severe. Catching the infection early will typically result in a faster recovery in my experience. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns. You can always request a consultation with me if needed. Please remember to rate this post as helpful or not. Thank you!
