Kitten with coccidiosis: Is severe diarrhea normal on medication?
Hello and thank you very much for your question. The coccidiosis treatment that was prescribed to you is generally the most safe and affective on the market.
It can be normal to have periods of explosive diarrhea or multiple defecation’s for up to seven days after the treatment starts. My advice is as follows:
As long as he continues to eat normally, drink normally, play, and not vomit, I would continue with the treatment without going back to the vet. If he seems lethargic or sick or he just does not seem himself, however, I would take him back to the vet or call the vet as soon as possible to get a consultation.
If you decide to keep him at home and continue the treatment, the diarrhea and related side effects of the medications should be gone by 7 to 10 days after the treatment began.
Thanks a lot for presenting your question to our consultation service. Have a great day.
