Kitten has coccidia: How to clean and is it contagious to humans?

Coccidia can be treated fairly easy. I would suggest you keep your cat separated from the kitten until the kitten's stool is free of coccidia. If you adopt the kitten while under treatment for coccidia, keep your cat and the kitten separate and give them their own litter box. Coccidia is normally not a problem in healthy adult cats because their immune systems are much more developed and able to deal with it - so even if they are exposed, it would be very unusual for them to actually catch this illness from your kitten. As long as they are healthy otherwise, it should be fine for the kitten to be around them :)

1. The only concern for human beings is the transmission of certain tapeworms. These are transmitted by fleas and incidental ingestion of the flea can cause infection. I would not be worried about roundworm, but fleas need to be treated as well as gastrointestinal worms. Normal hygiene precautions must be followed though (wash your hands). 2. Yes, coccidiosis is indeed a fair possibility. there are also other intestinal parasites that could be the cause as well as viral or bacterial infections. i would recommend to start with a course of treatment for worms and coccidiosis first in order to try and rule that out.

It can be normal to have periods of explosive diarrhea or multiple defecation’s for up to seven days after the treatment starts. My advice is as follows: As long as he continues to eat normally, drink normally, play, and not vomit, I would continue with the treatment without going back to the vet. If he seems lethargic or sick or he just does not seem himself, however, I would take him back to the vet or call the vet as soon as possible to get a consultation. If you decide to keep him at home and continue the treatment, the diarrhea and related side effects of the medications should be gone by 7 to 10 days after the treatment began.
