Is it safe to bring a coccidia-treated kitten home to my cat?

Coccidia is normally not a problem in healthy adult cats because their immune systems are much more developed and able to deal with it - so even if they are exposed, it would be very unusual for them to actually catch this illness from your kitten. As long as they are healthy otherwise, it should be fine for the kitten to be around them :)

Hello, coccidia is shed in the feces and rarely in vomit. Wash your hands after cleaning the litter box and clean any surface Oliver may have defecate on. The most common type of Coccidia that infects cats is species specific and it does not affect humans. Some more rare types of coccidia may infect humans such as cryptosporidium and toxoplasma, again also transmitted via a fecal to oral form or by eating raw meat. Coccidia is transmitted via the fecal oral route so if there any surfaces that are contaminated with your pup's feces, this should be washed thoroughly and other dogs should be kept away from it. As long as you are sure your cat was vaccinated the risks are very minor, vaccinated cats very very rarely contract the disease. i would still recommend keeping them apart until the new cat is completely recovered.

It can be normal to have periods of explosive diarrhea or multiple defecation’s for up to seven days after the treatment starts. My advice is as follows: As long as he continues to eat normally, drink normally, play, and not vomit, I would continue with the treatment without going back to the vet. If he seems lethargic or sick or he just does not seem himself, however, I would take him back to the vet or call the vet as soon as possible to get a consultation. If you decide to keep him at home and continue the treatment, the diarrhea and related side effects of the medications should be gone by 7 to 10 days after the treatment began. Hi there. I would expect that all puppies in the litter likely have coccidia, so the pup would need to be seen by a veterinarian for treatment right away. Whether it will survive or not depends on how sick it is at the moment. Coccidia is usually fairly simple to treat, but it sounds like a severe case if two pups have already passed away.

Coccidiosis is a common microscopic parasite in puppies. As long as he receives a complete course of treatment and is seen by your vet very soon after adoption for follow-up and wellness and gets started on his vaccinations, I don't see a problem with going ahead with the adoption.
