My puppy has coccidia. Should I keep her separate from other dogs?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Aussie Doodle | Female | 2 months and 17 days old | 5.5 lbs

My 10 week old puppy was just diagnosed with coccidia. She had shown no symptoms but tested positive during her puppy wellness exam that included a decal test. She is currently on Albon. My parents are going out of town for a week and we are watching her 8 year old dog. Should I keep them separate? Thanks

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, they should be maintained separately as this can be easily caught by another dog. Coccidia is transmitted via the fecal oral route so if there any surfaces that are contaminated with your pup's feces, this should be washed thoroughly and other dogs should be kept away from it. Good luck and have a good night!
