Is it normal for my kitten to chirp after hearing a dog bark?

That is very cute! Some cats like the sound of their own voice, or she may be making the noise to get your attention to you to play with her and her favorite toy. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, using the litter box normally, and behaving normally, I would view this as a cute little quirk of hers and I would not worry about it :-)

I wouldn't be concerned if this is how he has always sounded. Upper respiratory infections are very common in young kittens and sometimes swelling can affect the vocal folds - it's possible that he had some scar tissue formed. It's also possible that this is how he was born. If he does have trouble swallowing or breathing, or if he regurgitates or vomits you should see your vet.

A change in the voice generally indicates an illness. I recommend to have your kitten seen by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications to ease inflammation and any discomfort in the throat. I hope Peabo starts feeling better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello. I have a male cat that does this periodically with a small toy. It is a peculiar meow & when I hear it he always has this small toy in his mouth. In his case, this is probably the call to inform all around him that he is bringing home dinner. I always tell him how proud I am with him. I have also observed an outside cat that has caught a small prey animal do the same thing. With Sarah, it is probably something similar in that she is "announcing" that she has caught the scrunchie. This may also be a maternal behavior. Regardless, it is very normal for a cat to vocalize with a toy or soft object. Just make sure the scrunchie is unable to be swallowed by your cat. If your cat is otherwise acting normal and eating fine I wouldn’t worry too much about this. Keep an eye on your cat and watch for drooling any swelling or soreness in the mouth or any reluctance to eat. If you notice any of the signs then you may want to have her checked out. Given that this sound only occasionally occurs when Marley falls asleep in a sitting position or licking his mouth after eating, and the fact the vet said he was healthy, I wouldn't be too concerned about this behavior. If the sound increases, or he starts doing it regularly, then I would have him checked out by a vet :-)

A cat in heat can certainly cause a male to be more restless and vocal. For his best long term health I would recommend having Kovu neutered, but being vocal is not necessarily a sign of illness. If he is eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally, then "talking" may just be his personality.
