Why does my kitten meow when playing with her favorite toy mouse?

Meowing is a normal play vocalization and is very common- especially among young cats like Raven! There may be a component of irritation or confusion but even if that is the case, it is not worrisome to me, especially since she keeps playing with the toy! Best wishes to you and Raven!

Hello. I have a male cat that does this periodically with a small toy. It is a peculiar meow & when I hear it he always has this small toy in his mouth. In his case, this is probably the call to inform all around him that he is bringing home dinner. I always tell him how proud I am with him. I have also observed an outside cat that has caught a small prey animal do the same thing. With Sarah, it is probably something similar in that she is "announcing" that she has caught the scrunchie. This may also be a maternal behavior. Regardless, it is very normal for a cat to vocalize with a toy or soft object. Just make sure the scrunchie is unable to be swallowed by your cat. Yes, this can be normal. Some kittens are simply more vocal than others. I would be concerned if he was only doing it when he was in the litter box, as that can be a sign of a medical problem, but if he's doing all the time, he likely wants love and attention :-)

Do you think the "humming" could be purring? Nothing you've said sounds obviously abnormal, and from your description she's active and eating well. It sounds like she receives regular veterinary care, so I'm assuming she's been vaccinated, treated for fleas, etc. Watch her closely, monitor her food and water intake, as well as her appetite. If anything seems amiss, get her checked out, but suspect that she's normal.

Some cats like a certain way things are said with higher or lower pitches. Your singing voice may be in a range she responds too postitively! Regardless of why she likes it, it is adorable. As long as there is no underlying medical reason that could account for the sound then I imagine she may be bored and looking for attention. I would suggest getting a cat flap if you don't already have one so that she can come and go as she pleases. Cats love being outside and usually tire themselves out when out. Alternatively get her some climbing toys and you could try a pheromone diffuser.

Depending on what type of noise she makes, that could be a completely normal ''hunting'' noise that all cats make after a catch. Please describe the noise more specifically to receive further answers from us.
