Is my kitten's popping noise when sleeping or eating normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 6 days old | 7 lbs

Hello, my 9 week old kitten sometimes makes popping noises like when human nose unblocks it's usually when he's falling asleep in a sitting position, or lickes his mouth after eating it's not often apart from that he is very active and playful not other symptoms I have been at the vets a week ago for vaccination they said the kitten is healthy so just wondering if that's something I should be worried about ? Thanks

Given that this sound only occasionally occurs when Marley falls asleep in a sitting position or licking his mouth after eating, and the fact the vet said he was healthy, I wouldn't be too concerned about this behavior. If the sound increases, or he starts doing it regularly, then I would have him checked out by a vet :-)

    If Tweety is currently open mouth breathing, then that is not normal, and he needs to see a vet immediately. It is a sign of respiratory distress. If this sound is only made while he is sleeping, he could be snoring or dreaming, as if he was having trouble breathing, I would expect to see it while he was awake as well. To be safe, it's always a good idea to have him examined by a vet.

If you only hear the sound when Kiara is sleeping, I would suspect that she's just dreaming. If there was a problem with her breathing, you would notice it when she was awake as well as asleep. I hope this helps.

I wouldn't be concerned if this is how he has always sounded. Upper respiratory infections are very common in young kittens and sometimes swelling can affect the vocal folds - it's possible that he had some scar tissue formed. It's also possible that this is how he was born. If he does have trouble swallowing or breathing, or if he regurgitates or vomits you should see your vet.

If he is otherwise doing well, he is likely fine and this is not anything important. Yes, kittens can lick their lips and meow after eating, and it can be a sign that Rose enjoyed her food. As long as she isn't vomiting, and is eating and drinking normally, I would not worry about it :-)

Penelope is too cute. If this breathing occurs only when she purrs or sleeps, it may be normal for her. If she was sick, I'd expect the breathing to occur like that all the time. Having her checked out by a vet is best, however.
