My dog stopped vomiting, but now she's throwing up again. What to do?

Hi so Miley stopped vomiting and diarrhea after giving her a bland diet as advised by a DVM. She stoooed for a day and has thrown up at least 3 times today and no diarrhea . She still eats and drinks and acts normal

Hello, and thank you for your question. Frequent vomiting is definitely a concern, and I would be worried about a possible foreign body causing obstruction. Other possibilities include food sensitivity/allergy, gut parasites, or infection. I would recommend taking Miley back to the vet within the next 12 hours if she is continuing to vomit during this time. They may recommend performing an x-ray to rule out the possibility of an obstruction. At minimum, they can prescribe medication to help settle her tummy and prevent nausea.

In the meantime, if you recently offered any new diet or treats, discontinue them and try going back to her old diet. Your vet may also recommend a diet formulated for sensitive stomachs. Small, frequent meals would be best, to allow her to digest the food easier.

Poor Abigail. It is difficult to tell exactly what the spots are on her back but possibly a local skin infection. Vomiting can be caused by several things like parasites, a GI obstruction, change in food, human food, toxins, and much more . If she is not eating then I would go ahead and take her to your vet to be checked out. If she is willing to eat and she is never throwing up her food then I would be more concerned about other causes like acid reflux or just an upset tummy. You may try to feed her some plain boneless skinless chicken breasts and see if This settles her tummy. You can also try giving her 20mg Pepcid (aka famotidine) once a day. If this still doesn’t help, then I would have your vet look at her. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get he started on the proper meds to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

My puppy is throwing up and dry heaving with a rumbling stomach. Why?

Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

My dog keeps throwing up. What's the cause and what should I do?

Vomiting could be caused by a number of things, including parasites, diet changes, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, food sensitivity/allergy, decreased pancreatic function, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please have your dog seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to allow for diagnosis and treatment. If your dog could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please let the vet know about it to help them determine if there could be a toxicity. My dog has stomach issues, diarrhea, and is throwing up. Help!

Hello, I am sorry for your concerns for Mochi. We often recommend pumpkin to add more bulk or fiber to the diet, so I do not think it will help much in this case. You can try giving her some famotidine ( Pepcid ), 5 mg every 12 hours for a few days to see if this does not settle things down. Keep her on the bland diet of boiled chicken & white rice ( 25% chicken, 75% rice ), or a little low fat cottage cheese for a few more days, as well. Feed small, but frequent meals. Adding a probiotic cannot hurt. I like Proviable or Forti Flora. If she does not straighten out in a short time, or she starts vomiting, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

Why does my dog keep throwing up hours after eating for weeks?

Hi, sorry to hear your dog is having this problem. I would recommend an ultrasound to make sure he does not have Inflammatory bowel disorder or a foreign body that does not show up on x ray. Some foreign objects can migrate throughout the GI tract so they can sometimes cause problems and sometimes be fine. An infection would not cause this problem. The anti vomiting injection only lasts 24 hours so if he did not vomit on that, you can try oral tablet of it. But if he did vomit through the injection, it is more likely he has a foreign body. If your vet cannot do an abdominal ultrasound, I would go to a specialist who has an ultrasound and is good at them to find out what is wrong Good luck, I hope this helps!

If Shieyah is vomiting and not stopping I would recommend a veterinarian. They can provide a medication to stop the vomiting and make sure it is nothing to be concerned about, like pancreatitis or even a foreign body. If she vomited once. I would withhold food for about 6 hours and rec small multiple meals of boiled chicken and white rice or a prescription bland diet. If she gets worse after this then she needs to see a veterinarian. Why is my dog throwing up daily? Could she have swallowed something?

If the vet was concerned about there being something in the stomach last week, then it could be related to her current symptoms. Objects that are ingested can sometimes stay in the stomach for weeks or even months before they cause any symptoms at all. I would recommend taking Miny back to the vet for re-evaluation.
