My dog has diarrhea and a watery eye with discharge. What could it be?

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the intestine, the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Eye problem seems completely unrelated and may be due to a mild conjunctivitis. At the moment you can just clean the eye/s with plain water, removing the discharge. Poor Oreo! If he's had a sudden change in diet, that could be the cause of his diarrhea, but it could also be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. The discharge from his eye is indicative of an eye infection. He will need to see a vet for these problems. The eye infection has to be treated by a vet, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Call his vet today to make an appointment so his problems can be diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

We can not prescribe medications on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach as the laws require a vet to examine an animal in order to do so. I am glad that Coco is eating, I would start him on a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. This bland diet helps bind up the stool and usually helps the diarrhea. You can also start a dog probiotic, I like Purina Fortiflora. I would also deworm him with pyrantal pamoate or panacur. If the diarrhea started after starting the neopeptine and/or the liv52 I would stop them. I personally do not use human supplements in pets and urge caution in doing so. If the bland diet and probiotic doesn't help Coco needs to be examined by a Vet near you. I hope this helps and I wish Coco the very best!

Coco needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. The vomiting could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn't have, bacterial over growth, parasites (worms and giardia) or even something more severe like organ dysfunction or intestinal blockage (which is fatal without treatment). Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check him and recommend diagnostics based upon the examine findings and history. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Goose evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor girl. White discharge from the eyes can indicate either a dry eye conditon or the beginning of an allergic conjunctivitis (allergies causing inflammation of the eyes). If she is also sneezing and rubbing her eyes from irritation, then chances are she has allergic conjunctivitis. You can discuss with your vet about trying some over the counter or vet prescribed antihistamine medication to try and help with this. Your vet may want to examine her first just to make sure we are on the right track with her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. In the meantime I would continue to apply warm compresses on her eyelids (while holding them closed) and Henry cleansing the discharge as needed to prevent irritation around her eyes. Poor Finn! Eye discharge is most often caused by an eye infection or a corneal injury such as a scratch or ulcer. Diarrhea in a puppy this age is often caused by intestinal parasites, an upset stomach due to something he ate, or an infection of some kind. I would recommend taking Finn to the vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a fecal exam to check for parasites or other problems, and will also examine his eyes to determine what is causing the discharge. The vet will prescribe appropriate medication to treat these issues depending on what is found.
