My puppy has eye discharge and diarrhea. Is it serious if he's eating?

From these pictures, Milos eyes seem normal. However, if you are concerned you can have your veterinarian perform an ophthalmic exam to be sure there is no problem. With regard to the diarrhea, this could be due to a bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection or it could mean that Milo ate something he should not have eaten. You can try putting Milo on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for a few days. However, if the diarrhea does not resolve, you will need to have him examined by your veterinarian.

Stress can certainly cause diarrhea in dogs. If Dex is eating and drinking normally, we will often recommend a bland easily digested diet consisting of ½ cooked white rice and ½ cooked white meat chicken (boiled without any skin or bones). If he does well with a bland diet and his diarrhea resolves, then you can slowly transition back to his normal diet over a few days. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. There are anti-diarrheal medications that your veterinarian can prescribe and they may also recommend a probiotic to help resolve the diarrhea. Poor guy. It sounds like he has a bout of enteritis which can often be caused by intestinal parasites in pups. As long as he is acting normal, eating well, and not lethargic you are ok to take him in tomorrow. A short course of antibiotics +/- dewormer will likely be needed to help resolve his mucousy stool. The eye discharge could be caused by dehydration, allergies, conjunctivitis, distemper virus, etc. The rapid breathing could be caused by distemper virus, pneumonia, bacterial infection, anemia, among many others. I would recommend that you take the puppies to the vet to get checked out, as many of these problems can be life-threatening in a very young dog. Eating chicken poop doesn't necessarily cause disease, but drinking from a septic system can cause very severe GI illness. If you can't get them to the vet today, then try to get them to drink as much water/gatorade/pedialyte as possible to keep them hydrated. Make sure they are eating puppy food so they do not become hypoglycemic.

Even though he has had vaccines, given his age, he is not completely done with his vaccines and can still get infected with some of these diseases such as parvovirus. I advice that you have Kilo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least, they can start him on anti-diarrhea medications and something for nausea as his loss of appetite could be from nausea. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to avoid dehydration. Good luck with your pup!

They will not vaccinate a sick puppy as it will not work and stress their immune system more With those signs I would worry about an infection such as distemper or respiratory virus. She does need to be seen by the vet so she can get treatment for that

Poor Oreo! If he's had a sudden change in diet, that could be the cause of his diarrhea, but it could also be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. The discharge from his eye is indicative of an eye infection. He will need to see a vet for these problems. The eye infection has to be treated by a vet, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Call his vet today to make an appointment so his problems can be diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
