Can I adopt a kitten treated for Parvo if my cat is vaccinated?

Kitties don't get vaccinated for parvovirus becuase they can't get parvovirus as this is a dog only disease. However cats do get vaccinated for FVRCP combo vaccine which includes the Panleukopenia virus. If you were to get your cat vaccinated for FVRCP now and he has not recently been exposed to any other animals or outside in the past 10-14 days, then he is fine to meet your new kitty this weekend. However if your cat Zeus does go outdoors, you should vaccinate now and then wait at least 10 days before introducing a new kitty into the home. Most adoption agencies will vaccinate for FVRCP, but then again if it is not in your cat Zeus's records, you have to assume he did not get this vaccine. I hope this helps. Feline parvo, also called panleukopenia, can be spread through the stool, urine, or nasal secretions of affected kittens. I'm glad you kept the kittens separated when they were both in your care. I would make sure you do not let your heathy kitten use any of the bowls, blankets, beds, or litter pans the sick kitten came in contact with. You can clean these items with diluted bleach. Also clean surfaces the sick kitten came in contact with similarly. Signs to watch for include lethargy, diarrhea and poor appetite. If your cat is vaccinated, it is highly unlikely that she would contract parvovirus. Washing your hands several times also will greatly decrease risk of spread. It is likely there is no cause for concern.

Coccidia can be treated fairly easy. I would suggest you keep your cat separated from the kitten until the kitten's stool is free of coccidia. If you adopt the kitten while under treatment for coccidia, keep your cat and the kitten separate and give them their own litter box. The typical test for Parvo in cats tests for the virus itself, so if the test was negative a month ago, then Wendy should be okay to reintroduce to the other adult in the household. However, there are a few different type of tests for parvo in cats, so I would recommend you check the shelter you got Wendy from to confirm. Parvo virus in cats (also known as panleukopenia) is a very serious illness with a poor prognosis. If Blue was not tested for feline panleukopenia and his diagnosis was an educated guess, it may be that the bloody stool and vomiting were caused by some other bacterial or viral infection, or intestinal parasites. I do hope that he continues to get better and go back to completely normal! A true panleukopenia virus infected cat can continue to shed virus particles for 6 weeks. I do recommend that he be seen by the vet to start vaccinations next week to prevent other viral infections that are prevented with proper vaccination. It sounds like you've done a good job disinfecting your home - if the new pup is finished with her vaccinations, the risk should be minimal. To be safe, you could certainly try and keep her in the areas of your home where your previous puppy never spent time or used the bathroom. But from what you've said here, it seems unlikely that Kiki would get sick - the parvo vaccine is usually very effective, so most cases that I see are in unvaccinated pups.
