Is Clavamox safe for my cat with a heart murmur and kidney infection?

I'm not sure exactly what is going on with your kitten, but Clavamox is given to treat many different types of bacterial infections, such as ones of the urinary tract. If your kitten is really dehydrated, bacteria can build up due to him not passing urine, leading to an infection. That may be why your vet prescribed the Clavamox.

They are safe to use together however clavamox has a high rate of causing nausea/loss of appetite too. Of course consult with your veterinarian as I do not know what condition your little baby has and one of or both of those may be uneccesary. With all of these antibiotics I also definitely recommend a probiotic like benebac gel. Best of luck to you and the kitten!

I personally would use clavamox long term if it’s effective. Yes, there are less side effects. Then you can keep the clindamycin to use at some point in the future, if needed. Aw, handsome boy! I'm sorry he's having some issues. While I wouldn't say its dangerous to give clavamox and orbax together, I don't recommend that you do that without talking to your vet about doing a urine culture, to identify for certain what bacteria are present and what medications will kill the bacteria. Treating without knowing whether the additional antibiotic is necessary could lead to bacteria becoming resistant to those medications. Ensure that he IS ABLE to urinate and pass urine, as male cats tend to have very small urethras and could get an obstruction in their urethras from inflammation of the tissue and crystalline and mucoid debris in the urine. Occasionally, stones may form in the bladder and can also cause obstruction in the urethra. If your vet didn't do an Xray, you may want to talk to your vet about doing that if the problem persists. For now, if he IS DEFINITELY passing urine, he's eating, and he seems to be feeling ok (not vomiting, etc), ensure he's getting a lot of water to drink--you can switch him to wet food to increase his water intake, and consider a pet water fountain. Keep multiple sources of water available throughout the house as well. If increased water does not help reduce his symptoms after a few more days, take him back to the vet for further workup (possible X-rays, possible urine culture). When antibiotics are ingested in toxic amounts, it can result in mild to severe signs ranging from gastrointestinal signs (e.g., drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, discolored teeth), metabolic signs (e.g., skin lesions, liver failure, kidney failure, etc.) to central nervous system signs (e.g., tremors, seizures, death). I would advise contacting your local emergency vet hospital or contact Poison Control https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Sorry this happened with your pet. I would contact his veterinarian before discontinuing the medication. Be sure that Oliver has a meal before giving the medication as antibiotics can cause vomiting on an empty stomach. If he continues to have vomiting or diarrhea be sure to let his vet know and they may prescribe a different medication or something to give with the clavamox to help settle his stomach. You can get probiotics for cats at many pet stores, it may be worth starting him on this while he is on antibiotics. I hope Oliver is better soon. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Love Saki’s name! You are correct in your calculation, but 250 mg is not too much for Saki. Clavamox is only available in certain tablet sizes, including 125mg and 250mg. We never want to under-dose antibiotics, so we will often round up to the next best tablet size. As long as Saki is taking the antibiotic with food, GI side effects should be minimal. I hope this is helpful!
