My cat is vomiting and has diarrhea on Clavamox. Should I stop?

I would give the cerenia about an hour prior to the clavamox. Food should be given with the clavamox as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Clavamox, like most antibiotics, can cause upset stomach, nausea and vomiting when given on am empty stomach. The nausea and vomiting may be decreased if you give it with food. Some pets will do just fine taking antibiotics on an empty stomach.

Hi. Imodium is contraindicated in cats. Please don't give otc meds to cats as many are toxic. I would recomend a vet visit if she is not eating, vomiting and diarrhea. She may have parasisites, have ingested toxins, have primary GI disease or any number of other things. Unless prescribed for her I wouldn't recomend the amoxicillin/clavanuate as one of the side effects of this antibiotic can be diarrhea and vomiting. If she was prescribed this, contact her vet as they need to know she is reacting to it. Try offering small amounts of bland chicken and rice. If she can eat and keep it down gradually mix her cat food back in. But if not she needs a vet visit.

Peaches is adorable! I would recommend calling your veterinarian. I have seen cases where they got an upset stomach the last day or two on the antibiotics and maybe now since she is no longer going to be taking them she will feel much better. Many antibiotics cause gastrointestinal issues in cats so you will need to call your vet and let them know what is going on. Most likely they will have you stop one or both of the antibiotics and prescribe something different. I would also suggest that you put him on a pre/probiotic while he is taking antibiotics and then continue for at least one week after the antibiotics have been stopped. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

It can take several days for an antibiotic to take effect against a bacterial infection, but not all upper respiratory infections are bacterial in origin. Many are actually viral which will have to run their course with supportive care. The drooling and foaming at the mouth can sometimes be seen shortly after administering oral medications such as Clavamox since they taste badly to cats. Matted fur could be caused by not feeling well enough to groom. Not eating is common in cats that can't smell well since they are smell-driven when eating. I would recommend that you try to give Sam water or pedialyte to stay hydrated, and try "smelly" cat food such as canned cat food or canned tuna. If he isn't better tomorrow, becomes profoundly lethargic, or you cannot get food or water into him, then he should be re-evaluated by your vet for other treatment options or even hospitalization.
