Accidentally gave my cat too many valerian calming treats. Is he okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 5 lbs

I have accidentally given my cat too many valerian calming cat treats. I didn’t realise I could only give him a certain ammount.

Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Fortunately, this is pretty safe, so while it's recommended to give those treats in moderation, I wouldn't be overly worried if Bug is acting normal. I recommend stopping the treats for a few days while Bug metabolizes what he's gotten, and then giving the treats according to the package guidelines going forward.

Of course, if you are worried (or if Bug seems excessively sleepy or wobbly on his feet) then I recommend reaching out to your regular vet. But my suspicion is he'll do just fine!

Hope this helps!
