My anxious cat had CBD oil with spearmint. Should I be worried?

As of yet, we have very little research on CBD oil in veterinary patients, so we cannot make any recommendations one way or the other about this product - we do not know what an appropriate dose might be, and if there are any potential health concerns or drug interactions in cats. In addition, because it's a schedule 1 drug, it's illegal for us to prescribe or recommend. You can try keeping an Ecollar on her to prevent her from licking more, and a soothing oatmeal bath may help. I'd also have her seen by her vet to see if there are medications that can help her. Fortunately, this is pretty safe, so while it's recommended to give those treats in moderation, I wouldn't be overly worried if Bug is acting normal. I recommend stopping the treats for a few days while Bug metabolizes what he's gotten, and then giving the treats according to the package guidelines going forward. Of course, if you are worried (or if Bug seems excessively sleepy or wobbly on his feet) then I recommend reaching out to your regular vet. But my suspicion is he'll do just fine! Hope this helps!

Hi there, I always recommend trialing the sedation with a quick drive around the neighborhood before the big day to ensure that the kitty is calm enough. CBD is being studied for pets right now, but the hard data for recommending dosages isn't available yet. As well, many CBD advertised products will have enough THC to cause toxicity in pets, so I do caution to monitor closely and not give large amounts of a product you are unfamiliar with. I cannot think of a reason that a missing eye would interfere with mild sedation but I don't have the whole medical record either. Medications like Gabapentin or Trazodone would be more commonly prescribed for mild anxiety reducing and sedative purposes for a long drive. I hope this helps. You can open the capsule and mix the powder with a small amount of canned food. Only use enough canned food to mask the powder. If you mix it with a large amount of canned food and she doesn't eat it all, she won't get the full dose. Be sure to give it at least 2-3 hours prior to the appointment. I often recommend people give a dose at home on a day that you can be with him as a trial run so you can see how the drug affects him. You may find that it seems like it is doing nothing for him or you may see that he is too sedate or maybe it is just right. But you can take note to see how long it takes to affect him after he ingests it - some cats take 2-3 hours to get sedate and others only need 30 minutes to an hour. This way you can get the timing right for dosing him for his appointment. You don't have to do this but it may be a good idea as "test run". Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If you want to try something else for his anxiety issues that we know is safe, I would suggest Zylkene or Composure - these are natural calming supplements that can be purchased over the counter or ordered online without a prescription. You could also talk to your veterinarian about prescription anti-anxiety medication such as alprazolam or trazodone, if Peetie's anxiety is severe.
