My cat's belly is swollen. Is it a false pregnancy from nursing?

It sounds as though Knox is exhibiting signs of a false pregnancy. Since she was spayed last month, it is not possible for her to actually become pregnant. Rarely, a portion of ovarian tissue (referred to as ovarian remnant syndrome) can remain after a spay, which then produces hormones and can cause signs of heat and possible pregnancy. Generally a cat is not visibly pregnant until 5-6weeks and would have kittens within 3-4weeks. A vet should be able to feel kittens in the belly at this stage and if negative further investigation may be recommended especially if there is any changes in appetite or thirst or she is lethargic.

It is possible for her to be having a false pregnancy. It is more common in dogs, but cats can have them as well. If you are not planning on breeding her it is best to have her spayed. False pregnancies can turn into a uterine infection (pyometra) which can be life threatening.
