My cat's belly is swollen, but no kittens are coming. What's wrong?

Yes, this could be due to a false pregnancy. Storm should not still be feeding the seven month old kitten, that is way too old. You need to separate her completely from the kittens (as long as all are at least two months of age) so her milk can dry up. I'd take her into the vet to confirm she has a false pregnancy and to make a date to spay her. I hope this helps.

Hello. It is very difficult to say if she is or is not pregnant from these pictures, because if she is only carrying 1 or 2 kittens, then she would not be as big as one carrying 4-6 kittens. And if she is truly 68 days into a pregnancy, she is overdue. If she does have kittens you should be able to rub on her abdomen & feel some substantial "bumps" at this point in time. The average pregnancy time for a female cat is 61-63 days, so if Lilly was bred 5 weeks ago, she is likely only around 35-40 days pregnant, but she may be having some behavior changes already which is not abnormal. If the kittens were dead, then she would be very ill by now. There may be many reasons for an extended abdomen in a feral cat. She could have worms and should be wormed, or, she could be suffering from feline infectious peritonitis. or have a large tumor in her abdomen., If you can touch her and maybe catch her, if would be a good idea to take her to a vet for an exam, worming and vaccination. Your vet can determine whether she is pregnant or what other problem may be causing this.

The signs you are describing certainly could be consistent with pregnancy, but Mia could also be suffering from a false pregnancy. This is when a cat shows the signs of being pregnant, but actually is not. The only way to know for sure if she is pregnant or not is to have her seen by a vet. It is worrisome that her belly changed so dramatically in such a short time frame. If there is no chance of pregnancy, I worry about intestinal parasites or even fluid building up in her abdomen. "Mama" is a very pretty girl! :) I agree that her abdomen definitely looks enlarged. It's possible that she could be pregnant, but the enlarged belly could also be caused by something else such as an abdominal tumor, heart or liver disease, or FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Cats are only pregnant for 64 days on average, so if her belly has been swollen like this for more than a few weeks or so, I would be very concerned that something else is wrong. The best way to find out would be to take her to the vet for an exam - he/she can palpate her abdomen and may also recommend x-rays or ultrasound to help determine for sure what's going on.
