My cat is pregnant and in heat with a swollen belly. Is she okay?

The signs you are describing certainly could be consistent with pregnancy, but Mia could also be suffering from a false pregnancy. Yes, this could be due to a false pregnancy. Storm should not still be feeding the seven month old kitten, that is way too old. You need to separate her completely from the kittens (as long as all are at least two months of age) so her milk can dry up. Yes, she is probably coming into heat. I recommend spaying her soon or she will become pregnant if you let her out. Even if she’s indoors all the time, cats will go in and out of heat frequently and that can cause health issues so it’s best to get her spayed to prevent future problems. As far as the diarrhea and swollen belly goes, she may have intestinal parasites. You can bring a stool sample to your veterinarian and they can see what types of intestinal parasites she has and prescribe the correct dewormer for her. This could be a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. With a pyometra, the uterus fills with pus, and that can cause the belly to get big. Have Peekaboo seen by a vet now.

"Mama" is a very pretty girl! :) I agree that her abdomen definitely looks enlarged. It's possible that she could be pregnant, but the enlarged belly could also be caused by something else such as an abdominal tumor, heart or liver disease, or FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Cats are only pregnant for 64 days on average, so if her belly has been swollen like this for more than a few weeks or so, I would be very concerned that something else is wrong. The best way to find out would be to take her to the vet for an exam - he/she can palpate her abdomen and may also recommend x-rays or ultrasound to help determine for sure what's going on.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Her belly and mammary glands do not look distended enough to be pregnant unless she is early pregnant (2-4 weeks). I think she might be in heat. I would try to keep her inside as it doesn't take cats very long to get the deed done! Cats are pregnant for 60 days, so if her belly and mammary glands continue to get larger then she is likely pregnant and you'd have kittens 4-6 weeks from now. Good luck!
