Is it normal for my cat to make noises after catching a mouse or rat?

That is very cute! Some cats like the sound of their own voice, or she may be making the noise to get your attention to you to play with her and her favorite toy. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, using the litter box normally, and behaving normally, I would view this as a cute little quirk of hers and I would not worry about it :-)

Mice are not an unusual snack for cats and rarely cause any symptoms at all other than occasionally vomiting. Monitor for any severe vomiting and report to your vet if this occurs. If mouse bait is used, there is a possibility she may be exposed to this so monitor for any other unusual signs

Hello. I have a male cat that does this periodically with a small toy. It is a peculiar meow & when I hear it he always has this small toy in his mouth. In his case, this is probably the call to inform all around him that he is bringing home dinner. I always tell him how proud I am with him. I have also observed an outside cat that has caught a small prey animal do the same thing. With Sarah, it is probably something similar in that she is "announcing" that she has caught the scrunchie. This may also be a maternal behavior. Regardless, it is very normal for a cat to vocalize with a toy or soft object. Just make sure the scrunchie is unable to be swallowed by your cat. If your cat didn't eat it, health risks would be minimal. The main secondary issues from hunting are tapeworms (if they eat the mouse) and issues from fleas (so I would apply a good prevention like Revolution of Advantage Multi). Another consideration would be to make sure you don't have rodenticide poisons anywhere because if they caused the mouse's death and then your cat ate it (or a future mouse!) then they would also be exposed to it!

If your cat is otherwise acting normal and eating fine I wouldn’t worry too much about this. Keep an eye on your cat and watch for drooling any swelling or soreness in the mouth or any reluctance to eat. If you notice any of the signs then you may want to have her checked out. Cats have a wide variety of sounds in their repertoire and believe it or not, a “chirping” sound is quite common! My own cat does not do this but I’ve had many clients who tell me their cat is “chatty” and mostly talks in chirps! I’ve witnessed it many times. I suspect Red Baron is just responding in kitten fashion when his housemates are chatting. Unless you think there is a voice change (wherein all vocalizations sound different), I have no concerns about Red Baron’s little chirping episodes. Hope this helps!

Given that this sound only occasionally occurs when Marley falls asleep in a sitting position or licking his mouth after eating, and the fact the vet said he was healthy, I wouldn't be too concerned about this behavior. If the sound increases, or he starts doing it regularly, then I would have him checked out by a vet :-)
