Why is my cat meowing and restless after giving birth to one kitten?

Hello, and thanks for your question about Mino. Cats can meow for lots of reasons, and some are naturally more vocal than others. This can change over. It’s definitely possible that she’s simply looking for social interaction from you - but she also could be asking for more food. Nursing is an enormous energy demand, and so nursing females do need to eat a bit more. So, she may be hungrier than usual! Keep an eye on her weight, and feel free to give her a bit extra food if you notice she’s slimming down at all. Otherwise, just give her a little extra love. :-) Hope this helps!

Hello, sorry to hear about Buttercup. She may be experiencing some post partum pain. This should improve in several days. Ensure Buttercup is getting adequate amount of food and water. You can offer her kitten food as well while she is nursing. She can eat as ofter as every 6 hours. If her meowing does not improve, if she does not want to eat or drink, she has tremors, or is weak and lethargic, haver her evaluated by your veterinarian immediately. If she is not straining to push at this time, then yes give her more time to birth the rest of the kittens at her own pace. Please try not to worry or [stress](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-surprising-ways-stress-can-impact-your-pet) her during her labor process as this can stall and prolong her labor. If no kitten is delivered after 30 minutes of active straining/pushing, then you should have her examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER.

The only way to be sure there are no kittens left is for your veterinarian to do an exam and likely an x-ray of her belly to make sure there's no kittens still present. It maybe she only had one kitten. But it is also possible she's not wanting to eat because she could be having complications of labor. I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam to make sure there are no further issues.

Since she has been having contractions for a few hours now and has not produced a kitten, it is now time for an intervention by a veterinarian. Please take her to a vet or petER now. The vet will be able to determine whether there is another kitten or more than one, and whether there is a kitten blocking the birth canal. Your cat may need a cesarian section in case the kitten (if there is one) is too big to be born naturally. Please take her to a vet now.

It could be that Precious has gone into heat again! Cats can go back into heat relatively quickly after having kittens. That would cause her to be more vocal than usual. She could also be more vocal because she's communicating with her kittens. They are born with their eyes shut and their ear canals closed, and they stay that way their first few weeks of life. As their ear canals open, the cat uses her voice to communicate with them. A cat should have all kittens within 6-8 hours, and while possible, it is rare for there to only be one kitten in a litter.
