Why is my cat licking lips, shaking head, and acting uncomfortable?

It sounds like Scooby could have a problem with his mouth - he may have a wound or a growth that's bothering him, or a bad tooth. Often cats with problem teeth will continue to eat even with severe lesions that are obviously painful. Licking the lips frequently could also be a sign of nausea. I would recommend making an appointment with your vet for a complete oral examination.

He may have an injury or something stuck in his mouth that makes him painful and reluctant to eat. I strongly recommend getting him seen by a vet right away, even though he's feeling better. There may still be something that can be corrected to make him feel better, and if he has swallowed something he shouldn't have or injured his mouth by chewing something he may need veterinary care in order to heal completely.

Poor Missy! She could have a dental problem causing her symptoms, such as a tooth root abscess, broken tooth, or severe periodontal disease. There could also be a growth or foreign body in her mouth. Shaking the head frequently can also be a sign of an ear infection, while licking the mouth as well as not eating and drinking can be a sign of nausea . She is in pain from this, and she is showing this to by shaking her head frequently, licking her mouth, not eating, and not drinking. I think you have good reason to be concerned in this case. Anytime a cat seems less active, it indicates that something is wrong. Swallowing frequently is something we see with cats that have upper respiratory infections, or complications within the throat like polyps or ulcers. It would be worthwhile to have Liam evaluated by a vet sometime within the next day or two. They will be able to further investigate the problem and determine how concerning this problem is.
