Why is my cat rubbing his mouth, licking lips, and can't lick me?

He may have an injury or something stuck in his mouth that makes him painful and reluctant to eat. I strongly recommend getting him seen by a vet right away, even though he's feeling better. There may still be something that can be corrected to make him feel better, and if he has swallowed something he shouldn't have or injured his mouth by chewing something he may need veterinary care in order to heal completely.

Constant licking of the lips is usually either a sign of nausea or a sign of dental disease, you should take him to the vet and get it checked, first the mouth then if nothing is found a blood test to try and discover what could be causing the nausea.

I am very sorry that Kitty has his sore near her lip. Thank you for proving pictures, it is difficult to know precisely what caused this lesion it may have been a cat scratch, a traumatic puncture from for example a fence, or possible a primary skin like feline acne, or allergic disease. At this stage it appears to be slightly crusted and inflamed and I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian. The vet will most likely clean the wound and debris any necrotic material. The vet may also send home pain relief, anti inflammatory medications and / or antibiotics. The vet will also be able examine the area and reach a diagnosis. Without examining your cat or at least seeing some photos it is very difficult for me to comment. The best I can tell you is that he needs to see a vet so he can be examined in person. He may have a seriously infected tooth or even a tumor in his mouth cavity. Both things can cause the sign you describe. He cannot be left in this condition without eating and losing weight. It sounds like he is in pain so he needs to see a vet right away. I would not wait to get him examined. This is an emergency in my opinion.

If he will allow, check in and around his mouth for signs of infection or injury. This may include redness, swelling, bruising, bleeding or discharge. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water available at all times and review his diet to confirm adequate nutrition. A pheromone product, such as Feliway spray or plug in diffuser, may decrease any anxiety. If the behavior persists or worsens, have him physically examined by your veterinarian. If it is behavioral, a combination of medication and behavioral modification may help. If there is a medical cause, your vet can diagnose and treat it.

Poor Alfie, sounds like he is uncomfortable! This could definitely be a "yuck!" response if he got something on his back that he's tasting when he grooms himself, or it could be something related to his mouth such as an infected tooth (he's a little young, but it's still possible), something stuck between his teeth, under his tongue, or across the roof of his mouth, or he could be developing orofacial pain syndrome. I definitely recommend having a vet take a look if this continues more than a day or two. Hope this helps.

If Coco is nauseated from something, it is difficult to say for sure the cause just based on the symptoms. Coco may have a systemic disease or infection going on that needs antibiotic therapy.
