My cat was given dog Bravecto chewable. What are the side effects?

Pruritus or itching is not listed as a common side effect of Bravecti, however if your cat is not used to topical medications it may be that the sensation is irritating Jack. Hello. This is really tough to say. Bravecto has a pretty good margin of safety, I use it on all of my barn & outdoor cats & have never had a problem. The best thing to do is have Tikvichko seen by your veterinarian, & if he determines that this might be a reaction to Bravecto, he can contact the company. In many cases, the makers of Bravecto will pay for or reimburse for any medical conditions related to the use of their product. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to the area feeling different after application of the Bravecto. There are possible reactions associated with any medication or preventative product given to an animal though this would be an unusual reaction to a topical flea preventative like Bravecto. If the skin around at the site it was administered looks normal (not irritated or inflamed) and she is otherwise doing well, I would continue to watch her for now and have her evaluated by your veterinarian tomorrow if no improvement. If she appears to be too different to what she normally is, have her evaluated tonight to ensure she is not having an unusual reaction to the Bravecto. I think she is likely reacting to the application of the product because she can feel something in her skin that she is not used to rather than having a complication. I think tablets work better than topical and seem to have less reactions in my experience. Topciald can be irritating and burn the area where applied which can cause over stimulation such as you described With tablets, the most common side effect is vomiting and is minimal with that medication. I would recommend trying that instead

Hi there. Yes, Bravecto is an excellent product - it's extremely safe, and very effective. It's the main flea medication that we use at my clinics, and what I am currently using for my own three dogs. In terms of side effects, we occasionally have clients report some mild lethargy or stomach upset for a day or two after giving it, but most dogs have no side effects at all. Nexgard or Credelio would also be reasonable choices.

Hi there. This would not be a common or expected side effect of Bravecto, so I would be suspicious that something else is probably causing the itching and hair loss. If it continues, I would recommend taking Tinker to the vet for an exam. Possible causes would include allergies (food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment), a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Your veterinarian can do some simple skin tests if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

The medication works by being absorbed in the skin, so it will not be very effective if it's only on the fur. However, it's possible that enough got on the skin to be effective. I recommend just leaving it for now and only giving another treatment if it is not effective at keeping fleas and ticks off of Tikvichko for 12 weeks. If you have to give another treatment within the 12 weeks, then I recommend using a different product such as Frontline to avoid a possible overdose of the Bravector (fluralaner). Your vet can help you with a good choice of a different product if needed. I hope that helps and all is well with Tikvichko.
