My cat is scratching and sticky after Bravecto. Is this a reaction?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to the area feeling different after application of the Bravecto. There are possible reactions associated with any medication or preventative product given to an animal though this would be an unusual reaction to a topical flea preventative like Bravecto. If the skin around at the site it was administered looks normal (not irritated or inflamed) and she is otherwise doing well, I would continue to watch her for now and have her evaluated by your veterinarian tomorrow if no improvement. If she appears to be too different to what she normally is, have her evaluated tonight to ensure she is not having an unusual reaction to the Bravecto. I think she is likely reacting to the application of the product because she can feel something in her skin that she is not used to rather than having a complication. Hello. This is really tough to say. Bravecto has a pretty good margin of safety, I use it on all of my barn & outdoor cats & have never had a problem. The best thing to do is have Tikvichko seen by your veterinarian, & if he determines that this might be a reaction to Bravecto, he can contact the company. In many cases, the makers of Bravecto will pay for or reimburse for any medical conditions related to the use of their product. It's unlikely to be an allergic reaction but chewable bravecto is for DOGS only, for cats bravecto is in spot on form, if your vet prescribed the tablet i do not know what could be the side effects, you should talk to the vet that prescribed it.

I recommend you consider using a product called Capstar which is to kill a lot of fleas at once to complement a flea preventative product like Advantage. You can go ahead and give another dose of Advantage now as well. I would not give up on Advantage just yet. Continue to use it for now as this flea may be was a one time occurrence and the Advantage was still being effective. Another option is switching to Bravecto now though again Advantage may still be effective so it may be best to exhaust its use. Good luck and have a great day!

Bravecto is generally a very good product and at this point, especially with not seeing any fleas, it’s unlikely that they are the cause of itching. I don’t recommend to apply another product or to give the Bravecto early. Pets can be itchy for many reasons. Itching on the feet can be a sign that she walked through a chemical or plant that may be causing an allergic reaction. Also try to recall if she has had any new foods or treats as that could cause itching too. Lastly, environmental allergies can flare up when our homes are closed up in winter time with the furnace circulating large amounts of dust, dust mites and other indoor allergens. At home you can start her on an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this will help improve skin health. You should also call you veterinarian and ask about antihistamines or if they think she needs something stronger. Bathing her in a oatmeal dog shampoo and conditioner can also help decrease itchiness. Most dogs can be bathed once a week. Congratulations on your new kitten! The itching is not likely related to the worms and your veterinarian was right to treat for fleas just in case. Generally you will notice a decrease in the itching IF it is related to fleas within 2 weeks. If they are still itching beyond that, it’s may not be fleas. I suspect the Bravecto will be effective. Next time you apply it, try to put it just behind the ears on the back of the skull so that they cannot lick it. Ingesting the product can cause an upset stomach. Hi there. This would not be a common or expected side effect of Bravecto, so I would be suspicious that something else is probably causing the itching and hair loss. If it continues, I would recommend taking Tinker to the vet for an exam. Possible causes would include allergies (food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment), a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Your veterinarian can do some simple skin tests if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
