My poodle had a reaction to Frontline topical. Is Bravecto safe?

Hi there. Yes, Bravecto is an excellent product - it's extremely safe, and very effective. It's the main flea medication that we use at my clinics, and what I am currently using for my own three dogs. In terms of side effects, we occasionally have clients report some mild lethargy or stomach upset for a day or two after giving it, but most dogs have no side effects at all. Nexgard or Credelio would also be reasonable choices.

It's unlikely to be an allergic reaction but chewable bravecto is for DOGS only, for cats bravecto is in spot on form, if your vet prescribed the tablet i do not know what could be the side effects, you should talk to the vet that prescribed it.

These are different drugs and do not negatively interact, so it's OK to give the Bravecto, but it may be unnecessary. Sometimes owners will still see fleas and ticks on their dogs, but they are dead. I recommend checking to see if they are truly alive before giving the Bravecto. Pruritus or itching is not listed as a common side effect of Bravecti, however if your cat is not used to topical medications it may be that the sensation is irritating Jack. In most cases, Bravecto is a great flea and tick prevention. If concerned that this is a reaction, I recommend contacting your veterinarian, or the company directly. There are less than a handful of cases of dogs that had break-through seizures some time after given Bravecto. However, unlike other products (i.e. Comfortis, Trifexis), Bravecto has NOT been proven to increase the seizure threshold. Many many pets do well on it and therefore it has been considered relatively safe across the board. Seizures rarely cause death in pets fortunately if Bonita does happen to have a break-through seizure. Report any adverse events to your veterinarian. Also, keep in mind that pets that have seizures and are on anti-seizure medication, can still have seizures but they should not be frequent (less than 1 per calendar month) and should not last more than 3-5 mins in duration. Bravecto last for three months, but I prefer using a monthly topical treatment personally. That's because it can be reapplied after two weeks at the earliest if needed, while you would need to wait longer to give your pet Bravecto again.
