Why is my dog itching and losing hair? Is it a Bravecto side effect?

Bravecto is generally a very good product and at this point, especially with not seeing any fleas, it’s unlikely that they are the cause of itching. I don’t recommend to apply another product or to give the Bravecto early. Pets can be itchy for many reasons. Itching on the feet can be a sign that she walked through a chemical or plant that may be causing an allergic reaction. Also try to recall if she has had any new foods or treats as that could cause itching too. Lastly, environmental allergies can flare up when our homes are closed up in winter time with the furnace circulating large amounts of dust, dust mites and other indoor allergens. At home you can start her on an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this will help improve skin health. You should also call you veterinarian and ask about antihistamines or if they think she needs something stronger. Bathing her in a oatmeal dog shampoo and conditioner can also help decrease itchiness. Most dogs can be bathed once a week. There are many possible reasons for itching including fleas, allergies, skin infections and mange. I recommend using a good quality, fast acting flea prevention such as bravecto or simparica as well as an omega fatty acid supplement which is naturally antiinflammatory and moistruising. A full physical exam and further diagnostics would then be required if not improving in 5-7days

Pruritus or itching is not listed as a common side effect of Bravecti, however if your cat is not used to topical medications it may be that the sensation is irritating Jack. In most cases, Bravecto is a great flea and tick prevention. If concerned that this is a reaction, I recommend contacting your veterinarian, or the company directly. Hi and thanks for your post! I am sorry they are suffering from fleas- that is no fun! Yes Bravecto will elimate the fleas and therefore help with elimating the itching. New hair will grow back once the itching stops and the skin heals. If you have Btavecto currently, then I would give them that. It lasts for 90 days too! Benadryl will help with the itching. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There have been reports of extreme itchiness and hair loss from the Seresto collar. If Raven is having a reaction to the collar it should be removed and no longer used. I recommend changing to Bravecto, which is a topical flea and tick medication that is applied every 3 months. If his skin is raw he should see a Vet for antibiotics and steroids. I wish you the best!

There are a few things that can cause this to happen: loss of hair where the microchip was placed (if he has one), reaction to a topical medication like (Bravecto, Frontline, Revolutions, etc), skin mites, topical allergic reaction, trauma.....just to name a few common things. To me this looks like a reaction to a topical product. The reaction does not always happen immediately and can take weeks or months to show up depending on what phase of growth the hair was in when it was damaged. I would not be overly worried but it would be best to have your vet check it out. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Flea infestation and scratching because of it can cause the hair to fall out. However, mite infection (mange can also cause hairloss and vigorous scratching. I suggest you take Spade to a veterinarian to determine whether Spade has mange mites. Treatment for those is easy: Bravecto will kill them as well as fleas and ticks and will last a few months. Your vet may recommend another medication. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian. Apart from that here is the recipe for getting rid of fleas: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on or chew from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.
