My cat is acting strange and lethargic after Bravecto. Is it serious?

Pruritus or itching is not listed as a common side effect of Bravecti, however if your cat is not used to topical medications it may be that the sensation is irritating Jack. In most cases, Bravecto is a great flea and tick prevention. If concerned that this is a reaction, I recommend contacting your veterinarian, or the company directly. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Great question! I would consider the lethargy you are describing as a common reaction but I would not say it is "normal". I think you should switch to a different product as the active ingredient in whatever you are using doesn't seem to agree with Shadow. It is better to switch because sometimes the lethargy can progress to a worse type of reaction with each application. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

While any medication can cause side effects, three weeks is a long time for him not to be feeling well. His veterinarian will examine him and determine if laboratory work is necessary. Hello. This is really tough to say. Bravecto has a pretty good margin of safety, I use it on all of my barn & outdoor cats & have never had a problem. The best thing to do is have Tikvichko seen by your veterinarian, & if he determines that this might be a reaction to Bravecto, he can contact the company. In many cases, the makers of Bravecto will pay for or reimburse for any medical conditions related to the use of their product. So cats are very sensitive to flea treatments, and her symptoms seem to match up with flea treatment toxicity (except for urinating outside the litter box). It may be that the Frontline is causing her problems. I would wash off the Frontline now, give her a bath to get it off if you applied it within the last 24 hours. If it's been more than 24 hours, have her seen by a vet now. Depending on when you applied the Fronline, either wait a week (if the Frontline was applied in the last 24 hours) or two weeks since the application (if apply longer than 24 hours ago), then use a different flea treatment program like Revolution or Advantage. I would not use Frontline again. As for urinating outside the box, this could be due to feline idiopathic cystitis. Stress can bring this on, and a reaction to flea treatment can be stressful. Have her seen by a vet for this. I hope this helps!

I wouldn't mess with the remaining ticks, as if she's not letting you get them, you could potentially pull off their bodies and leave the heads, which could cause further irritation or infection. If you just gave the Bravecto, give it some time to work - it can take 12 hours to kill ticks that have latched on. If they aren't gone by tomorrow morning, let the vet take a look. This isn't an emergency right now, although it may give you the heebie-jeebies. Good luck, and I hope that Sheba's little friends die quickly!

I wouldn't have a concern about Advantage for felines, especially if Cheeto has had it before. Sometimes the feeling of the medication on their skin can feel weird, and we apply it in an area so that they can't easily groom it off, which could cause some anxiety. Keep an eye on Cheeto and if he isn't back to normal in a day or two, have him examined by your vet.
