Since she has been having contractions for a few hours now and has not produced a kitten, it is now time for an intervention by a veterinarian. Please take her to a vet or petER now. The vet will be able to determine whether there is another kitten or more than one, and whether there is a kitten blocking the birth canal. Your cat may need a cesarian section in case the kitten (if there is one) is too big to be born naturally. Please take her to a vet now.

If Elle is still bleeding, seems painful or in distress, or is feverish, I would bring her to your vet ASAP. It is possible she could be having some complications from her labor and requires medical care. Bringing her along with the kittens for an exam can help determine if this is the case and get her feeling better.

She may be taking a break due to strain. By now she should have resumed contractions and have delivered her kitten. If she stopped altogether having contractions, you can very GENTLY try to pull the kitten on both feet. If it does not move, or seem stuck, you will need to take your cat and the kittens to a vet for him to develop that stuck kitten.

If she is not straining to push at this time, then yes give her more time to birth the rest of the kittens at her own pace. Hi there and I am very sorry to hear about Cotton's kittens. I presume an xray was not taken when she was pregnant to determine the official kitten count. Yes, there may still be another kitten in there, most likely not alive, or it may be that she has an infection of her uterus. I would highly recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian as soon as you can. They can do an examine to see if they feel a fetus, determine if she has a fever or is dehydrated and ill, and take an xray if needed to see if she has a kitten (or two) in there or if her uterus is infected. If this is left untreated she may get sick very quickly, so the sooner she can be seen the better. Once again, I am very sorry about the kittens.
