My pregnant cat had one kitten, still contracting. Is she stuck?

She may be taking a break due to strain. By now she should have resumed contractions and have delivered her kitten. If she stopped altogether having contractions, you can very GENTLY try to pull the kitten on both feet. If it does not move, or seem stuck, you will need to take your cat and the kittens to a vet for him to develop that stuck kitten.

While cats can have interrupted labor, it's concerning that Lucy is contracting and not having a kitten. In this case, yes I would be very concerned and I would take her and her kitten into a vet immediately for treatment.

If she is not straining to push at this time, then yes give her more time to birth the rest of the kittens at her own pace. Please try not to worry or [stress](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-surprising-ways-stress-can-impact-your-pet) her during her labor process as this can stall and prolong her labor. If no kitten is delivered after 30 minutes of active straining/pushing, then you should have her examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER.

It is more rare for a cat to have a difficult time delivering kittens, however there is a possibility a kitten can become stuck. The whole litter is usually born within 6 hours with kittens every 30 to 60 minutes. If the cat is stressed or distracted she is able to stop her labor and restart the next day. However, if the female has been having strong contractions for greater than 60 minutes, she needs assistance in passing the kitten. Bring her and any kittens delivered to the vet’s office right away. Poor kitty! If she is still having contractions and something seems to be protruding from her vagina, I would be concerned that she may still have one or more kittens inside her. This is potentially a life-threatening problem, so I would recommend taking her to the vet right away for an exam. He/she can take x-rays to see if there are still more kittens inside her. If so, she will likely need an emergency c-section to get them out.

If it has been that long between having the last kitten, and there are still more in the birth canal/visibly moving in the belly, it would be best to seek veterinary care immediately as Midnight may be suffering from dystocia, or have a kitten that is stuck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Birdie!! Cats can get very easily stressed when in labor and can delay the birth of subsequent kittens up to 24 hours. If she is actively contracting for greater than 2 hours without the birth of a kitten she needs to go to an emergency hospital. I would confine her to a quiet place with the kitten. Only one person should check on her every 1-2 hours. Keep the room dim and do not allow a lot of stress. I hope this helps and I wish Birdie the best!
