My cat got an electric shock from a record player. Is she okay?

Hello, I am so sorry this happened. Electrocution causes edema or swelling and build of fluid in the lungs. As a result, pets experience difficulties breathing and need oxygen support, fluid therapy and pain medication if the tongue or oral cavity was burned. Often times, patients need support for at least 24-48 hours. Please don't wait. Take Snow to the nearest veterinary emergency hospital. Take every precaution not to stress Snow in transport.

Hello. Believe me, you would know if Kalli had been shocked by the cord. There would have been some immediate reaction, both physical & vocal. If she is acting perfectly normal, then she was not shocked by the cord. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

You can check her mouth to see if you see any burns in there, but you would have known right away if she was electrocuted from chewing this cord. I suspect she may be ok, and I would feed her. Ouch. Check out your kitty for burns and other injuries (she must have hopped in when the dryer was still hot. If there are none, make sure she has enough to drink, as she may be more thirsty. If you do find burns, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian. Otherwise I think she will be ok, as just being locked into a small space for a few hours is not usually detrimental. If the photos you uploaded were taken after she came out of the dryer, she looks pretty unfazed to me, not hurt by the adventure. HOWEVER! Make it a rule every day, to check the dryer and to close it , so your cat is not locked in it again.

While it is possible to become electrocuted from tampering with electronic devices, cords, etc, just licking the charger is probably not enough to cause an electrical shock. Usually patients that have been electrocuted exhibit sudden behavioral changes and may even have trouble breathing or exhibit burns on their mouth from chewing on cords or other areas of their body. Unless Rocky is experiencing sudden changes in behavior, breathing, etc, I don't think a lick on the Mac charger is cause for alarm.

No, you don't really need to do any treatment for this. Luckily this was not worse!! Just keep her away from the cords so she won't do this again! Some people put the cords through a PCV pipe to prevent them from chewing on them.

That looks like a burn from biting on the electrical cord. The soft tissues in her mouth can take a couple of days to show the wound from the electric shock. Take her to the vet tomorrow for a full exam, they will pay particular attention to her mouth and lungs. There are no home remedies that i recommend for this.
