My cat has diarrhea after Lincocin. Is it a side effect or diet?

My cat has been prescribed 600mg lincocin for his wound infection. He has been having diarrhoea since. Sometimes watery sometimes normal. He has alot of milk too and bland chicken meat. Today he only had milk and when I picked him up he had a few drops of diarrhoea here and there. I'm really worried. When he walks he drops some here and there too. What should I do? Is it a side effect or might be because he has had only milk today?

Poor guy. It sounds like your little guy is having an adverse reaction to the medication. He needs to be seen for a rechk by your vet right away to have the diarrhea addressed and then to get him on an alternate medication that will hopefully agree with his system more. There are other medications that are a bit safer for cats that your vet can hopefully prescribe for him, depending on the type of infection he has.
Until you can get him in to be seen its best to start some probiotics. You can start over the counter Culturelle and this can help restore some of his natural GI flora and can help some with the diarrhea as well until you can get him in to your vet.

Hi, it is best to understand better what is causing Dora to feel poorly. Has she had any weight loss ? Has she suffered with diarrhoea for a while ? I would recommend to have a feacal exam and an ultrasound for her abdomen which should not require a sedation. You can keep her on applaws which is a very easy to digest food and will help the diarrhoea and in terms of antibiotics metronidazole would be more indicated for bacteria affecting the gi tract.. but it does not come in an injection form, you would need to give her tablets on a daily basis.Hope this helps !

Hello. If the diarrhea is slowing down, then it may just resolve on its own. It sounds like your cat received the long acting antibiotic called Covenia, & the most common side effect is diarrhea. I would start Ella on a probiotic such as Proviable or FortiFlora, both available at major pet retailers like Petco. I am less inclined to think this is IBD because IBD diarrhea is often accompanied by vomiting, too. I would be careful about using this drug in Ella again, but give things some time to see if the diarrhea quits with the addition of a probiotic. Why is my cat licking his rear and having diarrhea after antibiotic?

Poor Puma! He is quite the handsome guy BTW! It could just be a weird coincidence but the antibiotic injection could have caused a little upset stomach. When your vet reopens tomorrow I would call and let them know what is going on. They may want to see him again or give him some meds for his tummy if needed. Plus, if he is having a minor reaction to the antibiotic (which is really rare), they make want to notate it on his chart. You can give him a teaspoon of pumpkin to see if this Helps as well. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I want Mittens to get checked out but it's not an emergency. The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!

My cat has diarrhea after antibiotics. Should I take him to the vet?

I would recommend seeing the vet. At this point even if the diarrhea was initially related to the antibiotics Jasper may now have a disruption of his normal intestinal flora that requires additional treatment. It's also possible that the diarrhea is unrelated to the antibiotics and instead is due to intestinal parasites or a food sensitivity. If you wait until he stops eating or loses weight he may require more intensive treatment so I'd recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian this week.
