Why is my cat's poop liquid after antibiotics and missing litter box?

You can try to entice his appetite with things like tuna, tuna water and chicken. I am sorry to hear about your kitty! If the food appears different than the one he normally eats it is possible that perhaps there is a different additive or food coloring that has upset his stomach (or is it possible it is a different flavor even though the brand is the same). We can see some pets have GI upset from quick changes in diet. That being said, we can also see diarrhea from other causes, including GI parasites, bacterial overgrowth, inflammatory bowel disease, as a symptom of systemic illness, and more. If he is still energetic with no vomiting you could try getting a probiotic from your vet or the pet store for him which can sometimes help with diarrhea and feeding something bland for a few days (such as plain white rice and shredded boiled chicken or lean ground chicken) or picking up the food you normally get at the pet store and trying this for a few days. Alfie could have a parasite, infection, inflammatory bowel disease, hyperthyroidism, liver/kidney disease, etc. Since it has been a week, it would be a good idea to have full blood work, fecal test, and x-rays done to rule out potential causes. I would also recommend switching to a hypoallergenic diet, like d/d, and see if that helps. A medication called Proviable KP may also help. If your vet didn't already prescribe Metronidazole (Flagyl) than that could be tried, too. If the diarrhea persists than an intestinal biopsy may be needed.

I hate to hear this is happening. Unfortunately, your cat needs to be examined by the veterinarian again. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it generally means the real cause of illness has not been identified. Likely she needs further diagnostics and treatment. When cats stop using the box, it's often because it hurts to have the bowel movement and they think the litter box is related to the pain. Unless your vet told you to give the imodium, I recommend to stop the medication. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I suggest you have him dewormed and I would also start him on a probiotic (Fortiflora). If you do those two things and the diarrhea doesn't start to resolve in a few days then you need to take him to a vet for an exam. If you use that again in the future and the diarrhea starts again then you can probably confidently say that it is the issue in which case I would stop using it. Usually if that is the case the diarrhea starts within 24 hours of administration. Two weeks later, it is not likely. The new food is also possibly the culprit but again, you didn't switch cold turkey and it doesn't sound like he is eating that much of it anyway. Again, possible but not likely. Hope this helps. A pasty stool can be from multiple things including parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, poor nutritional absorption, and more. I would first talk to your vet about bringing in a stool sample to test for parasites, giardia, and campylobacter. If everything is normal, you can try to put her on some oral probiotics to see if this helps to balance her stool. If not, I would have your vet do any exam and see if everything looks okay. They may suggest blood work and even a GI panel which tests for VitB12, folate, and 2 pancreatitic enzymes (PLI, TLI). I hope this helps!

It may be related to the recent stress of the infection or medications that were given. I would just keep an eye on it. If it continues for 24-48 hours or if Chibi develops additional symptoms, such as poor appetite or lethargy, I would definitely have him re-examined by the vet.
