My kitten is crying after declaw surgery. Is she okay in the bathroom?

I would keep Marvel in a large crate or a small room by herself to rest up. She will need a litter box filled with shredded newspaper during this healing time. She should be kept alone to restrict movement. Your vet will give detailed discharge instructions. Have the person checking on her follow these instructions.

The veterinarian will generally examine all the toes to look for any swelling or gapping from the incisions. Marvel cannot play with the other cat and he cannot have any running or jumping or else he may open up the incisions (he has 20 of them!). I do not recommend to let him sleep with you tonight in case he tries to jump off the bed. He needs to be confined to a small bathroom or a large dog kennel to prevent jumping. he should also use a paper or pine pelleted litter to avoid dust. It will take two weeks to heal in general. Yes, you will need to separate the cats so they do not play or the other cat does not try to pull on the surgical sites. Marvel will need to wear an elizabethan collar and will need to be kept from running/jumping or climbing. The dewclaws in the back may have been loosely attached which the operating veterinarian thought it would be best to have them removed. You would have to speak with the veterinarian to know for sure. Increased pain and limping 5days after surgery may indicate infection in the wound, and she needs to be assessed by a vet for pain relief and possibly antibiotics. Given she has had an anesthetic, surgical trauma and pain and post operative medications the risk of any additional treatment to kittens would be minimal
