Kitten laser declaw: What to expect for recovery, play, and sleep?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 14 days old

What does the vet do to asses a kitten the next day after a laser declaw surgery? The vet said she is doing very well today. Also will the kitten be able to play with my older kitten tomorrow and be able to sleep with me at night?

The veterinarian will generally examine all the toes to look for any swelling or gapping from the incisions. Marvel cannot play with the other cat and he cannot have any running or jumping or else he may open up the incisions (he has 20 of them!). I do not recommend to let him sleep with you tonight in case he tries to jump off the bed. He needs to be confined to a small bathroom or a large dog kennel to prevent jumping. he should also use a paper or pine pelleted litter to avoid dust. It will take two weeks to heal in general. I hope this helps.
