My bird's wing droops, and he struggles to fly. Is it serious?

A dropped wing can be a sign of illness. Dropped wing means that one wing is hanging lower than the other one. Hope that clarifies. If not, you should opt for a private consultation with the original vet that answered your question.

You are probably correct in that your bird has suffered some sort of wing injury. I would recommend taking her to be evaluated by your veterinarian and possibly having X-rays performed to see if any of her bones are fractured. I would also recommend that you trim her wings for now to keep her from flying and further injuring herself.

If this was like this all along it could still be part of his baby behavior or a conformation abnormality. Not possible to say from one pic. If the wing is hanging down it should be bandaged to his body to stabilize it until healed. This could take a month or two. There are many ways to do this. It is best for your vet to do it so you don’t make it too tight but you can google and watch you tube videos on how to do this. He needs to stay in the cage, don’t even let him attempt to fly until the wing is healed.

It is possible that Tweety has a broken wing, however, in a 12 day old bird it could also be a "conformational abnormality", meaning Tweety may have been born with one wing that did not develop properly. If you can get her to a veterinarian she can be examined to determine what is causing her to hold her wing that way. They may also want to take an x-ray to get a better look at the bones of the wing. If it is broken a veterinarian will usually splint it or wrap it in a special bandage to allow it to heal. In a young bird it usually only takes around 4-6 weeks to heal from a break. If he is continually bleeding, then it's best to get him to a vet as soon as possible, because they can't afford to lose too much blood. If the bleeding has stopped and he is eating/drinking OK, then you can wait for 24 hours and see if there is any improvement with how he holds his wing. Sometimes they initially will hold it like this and it will shake due to the pain and not a fracture. If it doesn't seem better after a day, then I would get it checked out by a veterinarian to see if there is any serious damage. I hope that helps and Rainbow gets better soon.
