My cockatiel has a sprained wing. How can I help her fly again?

Your cockatiel's wing may be broken-0 it is hard to say. If he is holding it at an unusual angle or the end is bent, that is a sign it is broken. It could just be badly bruised. A vet can give you meds to help reduce the pain and swelling and take an xray to see if is broken. Young birds can heal well but they may need a little bandage to hold the bones in the correct place

Thanks for reaching out about Kiwi. A fractured wing needs to be seen and mended by a veterinarian. This is a painful situation. Separate from the parakeets, remove perches and provide a soft towel on the bottom of the cage. Providing supplemental heat support int he 80-85 F range can give some comfort. Good luck.

You should wrap the perches with some soft material so it is easier for him to perch, if the foot is not badly hurt it will heal within several days, if it is badly hurt you need to take him to an avian vet specialist to get it treated.

It is possible that Tweety has a broken wing, however, in a 12 day old bird it could also be a "conformational abnormality", meaning Tweety may have been born with one wing that did not develop properly. If you can get her to a veterinarian she can be examined to determine what is causing her to hold her wing that way. They may also want to take an x-ray to get a better look at the bones of the wing. If it is broken a veterinarian will usually splint it or wrap it in a special bandage to allow it to heal. In a young bird it usually only takes around 4-6 weeks to heal from a break. Thanks for sending the picture. i would not worry about wrapping the wing, but I would follow up with a veterinarian soon. Trauma to the wing is repaired better earlier than later. Make sure your pet bird is still eating well. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear Baby got so startled! I would examine the wing he is chewing on/having trouble with to check for any injuries or wounds that may be obvious, and also limit his activity for a day to see if it helps with any minor injuries. If you suspect the wing is broken or there is a broken or torn blood feather, seeking veterinary care right away is best for treatment.

Have him perch on your finger, then gently place a thumb on his feet to hold him. Allow him to flap as he is being held on your hand. This may show him he doesn't have enough lift to takeoff. You can also hold him over the bed and allow him to gently fly/flutter down onto it a few times. This may also show him he can only fly downwards.
