My mare miscarried. Is lethargy and discharge normal or infection?

She may be very tired. I would check to see if there is heat in her feet and make sure she’s eating and drinking. You may want to get her up at some point and walk her around to check for lameness and enable the foal to nurse. If you pick up any abnormalities please have her checked right away. What a cutie! Please, get in touch with your emergency vets tonight or your local vets in the morning as the latest and get her checked over. Nala will likely require an ultrasound scan of the abdomen and possibly a blood test to find out what is going on.

Poor Nariko! It's very concerning that she's so lethargic and not eating, as these are often signs of a serious problem in cats. Since she had stillborn kittens, it's possible that she could have a serious uterine infection or even a dead kitten still inside her. Cats can also get pregnancy toxemia, eclampsia, and other life-threatening problems around the time of birth. I would recommend taking Nariko to a vet immediately for an exam. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

Poor giril. This looks like dark serosanguinous fluid, which could indicate an infection of her uterus. This often occurs post-labor or post-menstrual cycle. I would highly recommend taking Willow to your local vet to have her blood tested and vitals checked (temperature especially) to make sure she is ok. Often-times if there is an infection of the uterus (pyometra), the pet will have a fever, decreased appetite, sometimes vomiting and loose stool. Make sure she has water close by and see if she'll eat a biscuit. Often new mothers take a day or two to get their appetite back. Give her another day or so then if she still won't eat or drink then take her in. As far as the discharge goes it can be there for up to a week or so. If she stops nursing or the discharge has a foul odor then again I would bring her in for an exam. They may take an X-ray to make sure there are no more puppies and perhaps give her medication to contract the uterus to get rid of any fluid or afterbirth. I recommend you have Mira seen by a vet immediately in case she has any more kittens stuck in her birth canal, or in case she has an infection in her uterus. If either of these are the case, they could be life threatening. If not, then the vet can help determine if she needs further care for whatever else may be going on with her.
