My dog miscarried, has discharge & vomiting after meds. Is she okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 25 days old | 7 lbs

I have a dog (mutt). she was pregnant but had a miscarriage. she refuses to eat, drinks a lot of water, lethargic and got a watery red (pale) discharge. I consulted the vet and she was prescribed to take antibiotics and anti-bleeding. I was also told to give her water mixed with dextrose powder since she's not eating. After taking the antibiotics and some meds, she was vomiting, there was still discharge for the past few days but now it has become less. She is not lethargic as before. is it ok?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm so sorry to hear Portia has been having issues. Unfortunately, a uterine infection can become a common secondary issue with what you are describing. I would recommend having her re-checked by her regular veterinarian to ensure that everything is improving, and she wouldn't need to be spayed to resolve the issue. Good luck!
