My cat had stillborn kittens. What should I do about spasms?

A vet visit is always recommended in these cases so that is my suggestion - get her to a vet for an exam. If you don't want to take her to the vet just yet then monitor her closely for any signs of illness (not eating/drinking, lethargy, vomiting, hiding, etc). If you notice anything abnormal, then get her to the vet ASAP. She may have only had one kitten - there may not be any others. Please consider having her spayed as soon as you can. If they have stillborns they will usually continue to do so.

It could be that Shiver has more kittens that still need to be born, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. It's concerning that three have been stillborn, and I would be worried there's something wrong and she needs help giving birth. My advice is to take her into a vet immediately to be checked out. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The placenta can be passed before, after or with the kitten. Sometimes animals eat the placenta before we notice. I would assume it passed. If she isn't eating, lethargic or has a fever she should be seen by a Vet. I highly recommend doing so regardless to see how many more kittens are left and discuss spaying her in the next 4-6 weeks before she comes in to heat again. I wish you the best!

Please take her to your nearest vet if labour does not progress within the next hour. What she has passed may be a deformed kitten but now that she has started the rest of the litter must follow or she is at severe risk of infection

It sounds like Callie is no longer showing signs of active labor, and some bloody discharge can be normal for days to weeks following the birth of a litter. It would be unusual however for her to have only one kitten and I would be concerned that there might be other kittens left behind. I would recommend seeing a vet as soon as you can - if there are other kittens that are alive but distressed a c-section might be necessary, and if there are other kittens that have died Callie probably would still need surgery to have them removed.

Cats can stop birthing and then finish up to 24 hours later if they are disrupted by something. But it's rare and that doesn't seem to be the case in Cali's situation. So I think it's best to err on the side of caution and get Cali into the veterinarian's office right away. She may need help having the kittens or she may need a C-section. Poor kitty! If she is still having contractions and something seems to be protruding from her vagina, I would be concerned that she may still have one or more kittens inside her. This is potentially a life-threatening problem, so I would recommend taking her to the vet right away for an exam. He/she can take x-rays to see if there are still more kittens inside her. If so, she will likely need an emergency c-section to get them out.
