My cat is lethargic, won't eat, has diarrhea after stillbirth. Why?

I’m sorry to hear that Peony isn’t feeling well. I am suspicious that she may have refused nursing because she wasn’t feeling well. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I worry she may have a uterine infection or even a retained placenta or fetus causing illness. The only way to be sure there are no kittens left is for your veterinarian to do an exam and likely an x-ray of her belly to make sure there's no kittens still present. It maybe she only had one kitten. But it is also possible she's not wanting to eat because she could be having complications of labor. I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam to make sure there are no further issues.

Any abnormal behavior or sign of illness that persists, worsens or other signs develop are an indication to see your veterinarian. It's possible she has a kitten still inside of her or other problem going on. Your vet can gather a history, perform an examination and then advise you on any diagnostic tests needed. Possible tests include blood/urine tests and imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound. Once a diagnosis is made a sound treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Mimcha and happy holidays.

Hello. This is very concerning because your first thought is that both kitties got into something toxic. Until proven otherwise, I truly urge you to get Momma in to your vet as soon as possible. No, diarrhea like that is not normal. I’m not sure that it has anything to do with the mating, but I would be concerned that she could get dehydrated quickly losing that much fluid. Hello. I am sorry that Binx isn't feeling well. It sounds like Binx is very sick. If she isn't wanting to eat or drink then she could have a retained baby inside that is rotting and making her sick. That would be the biggest concern, and is fatal if untreated. The other kittens dying could also mean that she has a problem with her milk, or a virus, and this could be making Binx sick as well. I would strongly recommend taking Binx and the two survivors to the vet as soon as possible to be assessed. Good luck with Binx.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This is a quite generic but concerning presentation. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours.
