My horse has a mark in her eye. Is it serious and does she need a vet?

This lump seems to be due to an extremely severe inflammation of the conjunctiva (chemosis). Differentials include cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops as a first approach but it is best to perform a full ophthalmologic examination. This could be an inflammation of the sclera (episcleritis). At this time this does not look very dramatic or like an emergency as I cannot see other swelling which would point to more serious diseases such as glaucoma or an underlying autoimmune disease, however I would make an appointment with a veterinarian for an eye exam soon. It is not possible to diagnose this from a photo, and would need a proper eye exam. The cause of episcleritis (superficial inflammation of the sclera) or scleritis (full thickness inflammation of the sclera) is unknown, however toxins, autoimmune disorders and toxoplasmosis are accepted causes, In severe cases the vet may want to take a biopsy under anesthesia to distinguish between a mass and inflammatory tissue. Treatment may be necessary and would consist of corticosteroids and/or other immunosuppressants.

Poor Hurah! I can't see his eye very well in this photo, but any cloudiness is always cause for concern. Depending on the specific part of the eye that looks cloudy, this could be caused by glaucoma, a corneal scratch or ulcer, a severe eye infection, or cataracts. I would definitely recommend taking Hurah in to see a vet as soon as you are able to. He/she can examine the eye using a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

Poor Shelby! Unfortunately, the photos here are quite blurry so it's hard to see exactly what's going on. You're right that glaucoma is a common cause of a milky "film" on the surface of the eye. Other possibilities would include localized corneal edema due to a corneal scratch or ulcer, or even some type of corneal dystrophy (mineralization or fat deposits in the cornea). Eye problems should always be seen and treated the same day, if possible, since in some cases waiting can lead to permanent damage or vision loss. So if you can, I would recommend taking Shelby to an emergency vet today for an exam. The vet there can take a close look at her eye with a bright light in a dark room, and may also use a special stain if needed to help diagnose the problem.

I suspect this a corneal ulcer but it is hard to be sure without full clinical examination. The right eye does not look as bad but there is also abnormal looking cornea. Please, take Rey to your local vets taking all the necessary precautions against Covid-19. She should be seen by a vet right away.

There is apparently a quite deep corneal ulcer on the left eye of your horse. Immediate veterinary attention is required as the eye can get perforated. Antibiotic eye drops are required. Olini needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for the sudden change that you see in the eye include severe conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer or abrasion, glaucoma, uveitis, and trauma. I can't quite tell from the picture, but it may be proptosed ("popped out"). If you have an emergency vet clinic open near by, this would be a case that I would advise seeking emergency care.
