My rabbit ate something strange and now has white poop. Is it serious?

The pellets appear normal. Rabbits have 2 types of stool. The ones pictured and cecotropes, or night stool which they ingest to absorb additional nutrients. The white substance is likely dried calcium from the urine. Rabbits excrete excess calcium in the urine, frequently giving it a white or cloudy appearance. This is normal and no cause for concern.

Discolored stool can definitely be concerning in rabbits as it may an be a sign of dehydration or intestinal disease. As long as Mistie is eating and drinking normally, urinating regularly, and her stools are well formed, you can keep a close eye on her for any changes. Whatever she ate should pass through her intestinal tract within about two days or so. If you think she is not acting like herself, she should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Hay and vegetables should make up the majority of her diet. I would take Hugs into a vet immediately. True diarrhea is uncommon in rabbits, and this watery stool may actually be softened cecotropes caused by an imbalance of gut flora. This can be caused by GI stasis, which in turn can be caused by stress, dehydration, pain from another condition (UTI, dental problems, infection), an intestinal blockage, or insufficient dietary fiber. GI stasis can result in a painful death of the animal if left untreated, and it's serious sign when a rabbit doesn't want to eat. You need to take Hugs into a vet now.

Rabbits have a very sensitive GI system. Some causes for loose/wet stools: * internal parasites (worms) * colitis * dietary indiscretion (ate a food she that was new to her) * stress Those are just a few reasons. My suggestion is to start her on a probiotic and if there is no change or the condition worsens then she will need to see a vet. If your rabbit is getting diarrhea it is often from an improper diet. Can you please post again with what diet you are feeding and some photos of the diarrhea? We need more information like if the rabbit is otherwise sick or is acting normally. Are you hand-raising this bunny or is it still with it's mother?
