Can hamsters eat pickles? My hamster licked one, is he okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 29 days old

I feel really horrible about this but my hamster licked a pickle. I wanted to grab his attention and put the rest of my half eaten dill pickle in the cage with him. He immediately smelled it and took a lick. I can tell that he only took a lick because there wasn't any of the pickle missing and he was opening and closing his mouth very fast and licking his teeth. I know what I have done and I just want to know if hes gonna be okay or if there is anything I can do. Thanks.

Hudson likely would be just fine even if he ate some of the pickle. If he is walking, eating, drinking normally and not lethargic/tired there is nothing that you would need to do other than just offering him his regular food treats in the future! Good luck!
