My dwarf hamster ate human medication yesterday. Is he safe?

Theo should be fine! Large doses could potentially cause vomiting/diarrhea or bloat but if he is not showing any signs of discomfort 1-11 hours after ingestion the dose ingested was likely harmless. The active ingredient in baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, is sometimes even prescribed as an antacid for acid indigestion in humans and animals. Good luck!

These medication may take up to 24-36 hours before reaching a stable concentration in the blood stream. i would suggest to wait a bit longer before considering a re-check unless you think the signs are actually deteriorating.

If RuRu is otherwise acting normally and eating there should not be anything to worry about. If she did ingest the medication she probably would have only eaten a very small part since the medicine would not taste good. I hope this helps. If it has been two days with no issues Casper will likely be ok. I recommend monitoring him for decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark stools and/or pain/pale gums for one week to ten days past the possible ingestion time. If you see any of those signs he needs to be seen by his veterinarian.

Hopefully Remi did not eat anything and the fact she is acting normally is a good sign, but if you would like to put your mind at rest, you could take her to the vet for an X-ray. This depends on if the medicine is liquid or tablets. If liquid, you can either pour it over his food or squirt it directly into his mouth. If it is a tablet, crushing it into a fine powder and then sprinkling it over the food might work or you can mix it in with a snack such a peanut butter. Another option is to slip the pill into the side of his mouth and then gently hold his mouth closed until he swallows. Hi and thank you for your question, It's difficult to say really. The type of laxative is important to know. You would have to watch him closely for the next day and rush him to the vet if he develops a significant diarrhea or any other abnormal sign. Alternatively, you could take him to the vet and have them watch him for the day just in case. that would be even better. Regards
