Is vaccinating my Flemish Giant rabbit truly necessary for health?

Yes, your bunny should be vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Hemorrhagic disease. Best call your veterinarian to find out if he carries the vaccine and if not, whether he can order it. Usually veterinarians who treat bunnies regularly carry the vaccines.

But Austrailia might be different. I do believe there is a myxomatosis vaccine there and is recommended. you should consult a local veterinarian. Good luck.

While the vaccine isn't 100% effective, the few vaccinated rabbits who do get myxomatosis will develop a milder form of the disease and have a greater chance of recovery. I would recommend getting this vaccine for Scruffy, as myxomatosis is a horrendous disease and it's best to try to prevent it as much as possible.

Yes it is highly recommended to vaccinate him/her. Myxo-RHD vaccine is usually injected once a year. Usually registration is part of a normal consultation in every veterinary clinic. Hello. Rabbits can be vaccinated against rabies, especially if they are to be kept outdoors & there is a threat of contact with wild animals. We use a vaccine called IMRAB for rabbits at risk, or are in petting zoos. Rabbits are very prone to developing injection site swellings & abscesses, so this is a potential problem with vaccinations in rabbits. Furthermore, there has not been a case of transmission from one these animals to humans. This decreases the need to vaccinate these animals. As far as the rabies vaccine, it is a killed virus.
