Can I give my dehydrated pet Pedialyte? Is it safe for reptiles?

Short periods of pedialyte (up to 3 days) are unlikely to cause any adverse effects from the zinc content. If a cat was receiving regular supplementation I would recommend using a veterinary specific brand such as royal canin rehydration support. The electrolyte needs of humans and dogs/cats are very different as they do not sweat like people do and require a different balance of salts

Yes, pedialyte is good to give in cases of diarrhea, a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora is also very helpful. Profuse diarrhea, additional vomiting and any fever or lethargy would require a full check up by your vet

Honestly it is better to give plain water however, if you do give Pedialyte you need to make sure you dilute it first. The electrolyte amounts in Pedialyte are made for humans and not animals and it also has a lot of sugar!! To dilute it: mix equal amounts of water and pedialyte together (ex: 1 cup of pedialyte with 1 cup of water). At 10 pounds, Poppy can have about 1 to 1.5 cups of the mixture per day - divide that into small amounts every 30-60 minutes. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

There are many causes of dehydration and given her symptoms, I would recommend having her blood tested to rule out kidney disease or any other systemic diseases / infections. She will likely need a course of subcutaneous fluids, which is when fluid is administered under the skin and absorbed by the body. This is an effective way to hydrate an animal and is well tolerated. Hi, it is difficult to fully understand your question. Pedialye should be adminstered orally because the way that you are doing is just causing troubles to last tract of the intestine but it would not necessarily be absorbed. Can King be seen any sooner ? Ideally he should be put on a drip to correct his dehydration. Hope this helps.

Poor guy. Yes you sure can give him Pedialyte but only the non-flavored kind diluted 50:50 with water. You can use a syringe or small turkey baster to given it to him if he doesn't take it readily. You can give him as much as he will take readily (probably around 20cc's) and offer it every 4 hrs or so. Poor guy I hope Oliver feels better soon. Take care.

You may try offering a small amount (1/8 of a cup) several times daily. Vomiting can be rapidly dehydrating in young small puppies, so it can be hard to correct dehydration alone with oral liquids.
