My cornsnake has torn, scabbed scales. Is a vet visit needed?

I think it looks like it is healing OK. Neosporin is not the best topical antibiotic for snakes but the scab looks fine, it does not look red or swollen. I would just keep doing what you are doing. If it starts to look worse, swollen, he is not eating, etc then you should have him to a vet for an exam.

I am very concerned that your snake may have developed septicemia which is most often caused by bacteria living in the snakes skin that take an opportunity to infect. You need to go to a reptile vet right away to habe the snake examined. If it is septicemia itis very serious and needs high doses of antibiotics to treat. Sometimes there is an underlying condition that predisposes to it. I wish you the best of luck.

If the snake has wounds on its body I would recommend a veterinary exam to be sure antibiotic treatment isn't necessary. You can clean off the wounds with a mild warm soapy water for now and schedule an appointment with your vet when they open tomorrow. The topical antibiotic I have used in snakes is called silvadene, but it is a prescription only medication so if that is what is required, you will need to get a prescription from your veterinarian for this medication.

Hello, The two puncture wounds do appear that they could be from a bite wound. A small dog, cat, or snake is possible. I only see one picture, but since she is still alive a day after the bite, it is not likely to be from a venomous snake. Hello and thank you for your post! From the picture you have provided, my primary suspicions would be a thermal burn. I would make sure that your heat sources are well-covered and that what she touches near the heat source is well protected and does not transfer heat so to cause Burns. Another possibility is that if she has recently shut it, sometimes you can get superficial temporary Legion Post shedding that typically resolves on its own. I would monitor this area for now and if it worsens or does not improve I would get her scene by her veterinarian in order to get her the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps! Eclipse should be examined by an experienced herp veterinarian. He may need antibiotics to treat or prevent infection. Monitor for discharge, lethargy, odor or loss of appetite. Keep the area clean and dry. You can apply a dab of triple antibiotic ointment topically. Use paper towels as substrate until the spot heals. It may take a a couple sheds, but he should recover. In the future, if he ever gets any adhesive stuck on him, use a bit of olive oil to soak the area then gently remove the adhesive.

This sounds and looks like a burn from possibly the heating pad or a heating lamp he may have been lying on. This needs to be treated by a veterinarian.
