Why is my Yorkie pooping bright red bloody mucus but seems fine?

When there is blood in the stool I do become a little more concerned. I would recommend a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice, however I would still recommend an examination with a veterinarian tomorrow. That being said if he had a very bloody stool tonight, one that looks like raspberry jam, then he should be seen immediately. If he is developing a problem called HGE they can get very sick very quickly. If he starts vomiting that also increases my concern. I hope he improves quick.

Bella likely has hemorrhagic gastroenteritis or colitis. This could be life threatening and she will need to be seen by a veterinarian. Please take her to a vet or pet ER this evening. She will likely need hospitalisation, iv fluids and antibiotics and pain medicine. We do not know what causes this, but unfortunately certain breeds such as Yorkies are more likely to get this condition than other breeds.

You can add a canine probiotic to the diet that can help restore nirnak bacteria. You can feed boiled chicken and rice and yogurt also. A sample should be checked for parasites as he may need to be dewormed. Sometimes this can be caused by an infection, diet changes or stress from a new home and routine. If vomiting starts it he stops eating he needs to be seen immediately

I'm sorry that Azazel isn't feeling well! Bloody stools in a young dog can be caused by IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, or much less commonly a growth or trauma. Eating a large amount of his normal food would not, by itself, cause bloody stools. If his stool looks like raspberry jam, I would recommend taking him to the vet or an emergency clinic right away. If there are just streaks of blood on the outside of his bowel movements, and he's actually totally normal (eating, drinking, good energy, has pink gums) it's not an emergency just yet. In that case, I would recommend feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and giving him a day to see if it resolves. If after a second day (so 48 hours total) he's still have blood stool or is having diarrhea, it would be wise to have him checked out at your regular vet. Bright red blood in the feces is not normal, and could be caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a foreign body, eating something rotten, or cancer. Given Cody's age and the fact that he was vomiting previously, it would be best for him to see an emergency vet in my opinion.

Hello. That is definitely a little blood in the stool, but not enough to be overly concerned with. The first step is to have the stool examined by your veterinarian to see if he picked up some parasites, like hookworms or whipworms. If all is clear, your vet may decide to put Milo on an antibiotic, like metronidazole for a few days, but as long as he is feeling fine, & his stool remains fairly normal, this is not an emergency. Well, it is certainly suspicious that the blood may be coming from the penis. Is there any sign of trauma? If not it may be more internal. Bladder infection, prostate infection, and commonly bladder stones are all possible causes. Bladder stones in males are especially concerning because they can lodge in the penis and cause a urinary obstruction. Less likely would be a bleeding disorder, but that can happen as well. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They will likely recommend an x-ray to look for stones and a urinalysis. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
